It took American Randy Santel, a so-called “professional eater,” just eight minutes to successfully complete the Mister Spaghetti XL Challenge at Mister Spaghetti on Nonnenstraat in Roeselare. The Mister Spaghetti XL Challenge consists of 2.4 kilograms of spaghetti with sauce. “Since we launched the challenge, only sixty people—one in four—have managed to polish off that gigantic portion. So far, only one woman has succeeded,” says manager Samuel Van Opdenbosch.
“You get 30 minutes to do it, and most people take between 23 and 29 minutes. The record was just under 12 minutes, but Randy smashed it with ease. He polished it all off in barely eight minutes and 44 seconds. He didn’t even sit down in a chair—he just sat on his knees at the table. The whole thing was filmed and should be available on YouTube soon.”
Santel has already completed 426 eating challenges worldwide and is currently on a tour of Europe, during which he is trying to take on as many eating challenges as possible. However, the “Monument of Balen”—a replica of the Atomium built from twenty curry sausages and nine meatballs, totaling 3.5 kilograms of meat—proved to be too much for the eating champion last week.
